General Thread Grinding Tools

General Industrial Diamond is one of the world's leading manufacturers of diamond dressing
tools for the thread grinding and tap industries. The secret of General's success is the unique,
powerful chemical weld which bonds the diamond to the steel. The diamond is held in the holder
far more efficiently than conventional methods of bonding. Even more surprising is the
affordability of these tools.
Two types of natural diamonds are used for thread grinding dressers, the crystal and the octahedron.
The crystal has flat facets and straight edges; the octahedron has a cushion-like shape with beveled
facets and rounded-off edges. There are many varieties and qualities of these two diamonds. Perfect
formations are rare in nature, since most diamonds have fewer than six natural points and have less
regularity of shape. In order to be used in a thread grinding dresser, however, the diamond must have
at least one perfectly formed point, with a radius typically .005" or less. At slightly additional cost,
radii sharper than .003" are available. Crystal diamonds are utilized unless octahedron diamonds are
specified (at a slight additional cost). The diamond point is always located at the exact center of the tool.
